In a moment of despair and rage, Llywelyn struck down Gelert, his loyal protector, with a fatal blow. But as the hound’s anguished yelp echoed in the air, Llywelyn’s ears caught a faint cry-soft and trembling-from beneath the overturned cot. There, nestled safely and unharmed, was his child. Beside the infant lay the broken body of a wolf-Gelert’s true prey and savior.

The faithful hound had given his life to protect the innocent, a silent guardian who bore the price of a tragic misunderstanding. Wracked with grief and remorse, Llywelyn buried Gelert with honors worthy of a hero, a lavish ceremony where tears fell like rain and sorrow carved itself into the prince’s very soul.

To this day, travelers can visit the legendary grave of Gelert in the village of Beddgelert in Snowdonia "Gelert's Grave" a humble mound said to mark the resting place of the most faithful dog in all of Wales.
