One of the wildest tales in the Mabinogion. One of Wales's oldest legends. Reimagined in Ammanford.

In Culhwch ac Olwen, one of the tales of the Mabinogion, Culhwch is given an impossible task: to hunt Y Twrch Trwyth, a monstrous boar of immense strength.

The Twrch was no ordinary beast. According to the tale, he was once a king, transformed into the shape of a wild boar with seven fierce sons at his side. Together they brought destruction wherever they went.

So began the great hunt.

King Arthur and his warriors pursued the Twrch Trwyth across Britain, battling the beast and his offspring as they drove them towards the sea. Warriors were wounded and lives were lost, but the Twrch could not easily be stopped. He had to be driven, cornered and overcome.

His story is woven into the landscapes of the old Welsh tales - where mountains, rivers and valleys are as much a part of the legend as the people and creatures within it.
